Dears,
We are building a public-facing SaaS for gut-microbiome analysis. Paying customers upload sequencing data; we run (along other pipelines) bioBakery tools server-side and return reports.
We understand the bioBakery tools (MetaPhlAn 4, HUMAnN 3/4, StrainPhlAn, MaAsLin) are MIT-licensed and that we may use them commercially with attribution. So, three specific questions:
(1) Is the ChocoPhlAn database (MetaPhlAn markers + HUMAnN pangenome) permitted for use in a commercial hosted service, and may we cache/store it on our servers for that purpose? It currently ships without a LICENSE file and ofc we don’t do modifications to the DB.
(2) Given MetaCyc’s 2024 subscription model, may the MetaCyc-derived pathway definitions bundled in HUMAnN be used to generate outputs in a paid product, or should we restrict ourselves to UniRef/EC-based outputs?
(3) Does the lab have any commercial-use terms, attribution requirements, or a contact for the ‘company-internal bioBakery setups’ you mentioned? We want to make sure we attribute and comply correctly.
thank you very much in advance for the guidence!
Best,
Sandro
