Announcing the MetaPhlAn 3.1 phylogenetic tree

The MetaPhlAn 3.1 phylogenetic tree is now available for download. This file enables calculation of UniFrac distances using the latest v3.1 MetaPhlAn taxonomic profiles.

Changes with respect to the MetaPhlAn 3.0 phylogeny:

  • 2,680 species were added.
  • 433 low-quality species were removed (see PMID:33944776 for the definition of “low-quality species”).
  • There are now 15,766 total species (a 17% increase).
