Type I vs. Type III Sums of Squares

Does MaAsLin2 use Type I or Type III sums of squares? I.e., does the order of input of predictor variables into the model matter?

Maaslin2 uses summary to generate the coefficients and p-values that are output, as such order of input should not matter.
