About sequence IDs in BAQLaVa Full Length Genomes

First of all, I’d like to thank you for developing BAQLaVa.
I have one question regarding the sequence IDs in BAQLaVa Full Length Genomes and VGB IDs.
In the BAQLaVa Full Length Genomes database, each viral genome has a sequence ID such as BAQ00000001, while the output profile files report abundances for VGB IDs such as VGB_6. Could you please confirm whether each sequence ID in the database is uniquely associated with a single VGB ID (that is, whether there is a one-to-one or many-to-one mapping)?
Thanks!

Hi Tuezhu,

Thank you for your question! A VGB is a viral genome bin, which represents a clustering of one or more viral genomes and MAGs. BAQ#### IDs are associated to genomes, while VGB#### IDs are assigned to VGBs, and a VGB can therefore contain multiple BAQ##### genomes.

You can review the preprint here for further information on how these genomes were clustered, and let us know if you have further questions (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2026.02.11.705346v1)!

You can also find the information about which genomes are in each VGB in the BAQLaVa_metadata_genomes.txt file (baqlava/baqlava/utility_files at master · biobakery/baqlava · GitHub).
