Unknown and truncated average global

Hi, I have two questions, how are the deafult settings on:

1-Unknown estimation (default is “no- don’t calculate”)
2-RA calculation based on global truncated-average (default)
are justified?

I am asking this because I am considering using Unknown estimation in our RA calculation (human gut microbiome) as the metagenomes are of varying unknown proportions. Secondly, I am using truncated average -length normalised calculation which I understand accounts for differences in total marker length into account, while the global average does not. Could you please comment on that?
Basically I am wondering what are risks of deviating from default settings for these two parameters? Thank you!
