# Request for updated SGB-to-GTDB mapping file for MetaPhlAn 4.2.2 Jan 2026 database

Dear MetaPhlAn team,

I am using MetaPhlAn 4.2.2 and the database:

mpa\_vJan26\_CHOCOPhlAnSGB\_202605

to profile metagenomic samples. I would like to convert my MetaPhlAn profiles from SGB identifiers to GTDB taxonomy using the utility:

sgb\_to\_gtdb\_profile.py

However, the SGB-to-GTDB conversion script bundled with my installation uses the mapping file:

mpa\_vJan25\_CHOCOPhlAnSGB\_202503\_SGB2GTDB.tsv

and I am encountering missing SGB assignments for SGBs present in the Jan 2026 database. For example, my MetaPhlAn profiles contain:

SGB15326

but this SGB is not present in the Jan 2025 SGB-to-GTDB mapping file, resulting in:

KeyError: ‘SGB15326’

I confirmed that SGB15326 is present in:

mpa\_vJan26\_CHOCOPhlAnSGB\_202605.fna

but not in:

mpa\_vJan25\_CHOCOPhlAnSGB\_202503\_SGB2GTDB.tsv

Would it be possible to provide an updated SGB-to-GTDB mapping file corresponding to:

mpa\_vJan26\_CHOCOPhlAnSGB\_202605

(or let me know if there is a newer recommended mapping file or workflow for converting Jan 2026 MetaPhlAn profiles to GTDB taxonomy)?

Hello @young_doktor !

I recently tackled a similar problem, and they just recently updated this file! The utils folder on the current github page has the updated file: [https://github.com/biobakery/MetaPhlAn/tree/master/metaphlan/utils](https://github.com/biobakery/MetaPhlAn/tree/master/metaphlan/utils)

It will convert your vJan26 database results to GTDB r226. Hope that helps!

Oh, and this is the name of the new mapping file: **mpa\_vJan26\_CHOCOPhlAnSGB\_202605\_SGB2GTDB\_r226.tsv**

Any chance any one has this mapping file against the current GTDB release (11-RS232)?
