Issue with baqlava-db download

Hi,

I am attempting to download the BAQLaVa reference database from:

https://huttenhower.sph.harvard.edu/baqlava-db/databases.V0.5.tar.gz

The URL redirects to:

https://g-227ca.190ebd.75bc.data.globus.org/baqlava-db/databases.V0.5.tar.gz

Connections from our server on TCP port 443 repeatedly time out. Could you confirm whether outbound HTTPS access to this Globus data endpoint is blocked?

Since these type of timeouts like this often indicate a firewall or network policy restriction, I tried downloading the database to my local computer, but the download failed there as well. Since the issue occurs from both server and my local machine, I’m wondering whether the problem might instead be with the remote Globus endpoint.

Thank you for any insight you can provide.

Best,
Em

Hi @eodonne3,
Thank you for reaching out and for the detailed troubleshooting.
Based on what you described, it is possible that your university’s firewall or network policies are blocking access to the Globus data endpoint that hosts the BAQLaVa database. We have seen similar issues before with institutional networks restricting access to Globus endpoints.

If possible, you could try downloading the database from a network outside your university firewall (for example, a home network or another unrestricted connection) and then transfer the downloaded archive to your server using scp or another secure file transfer method.

If the download also fails from an unrestricted network, please let us know, and we can investigate whether there is an issue with the remote endpoint itself.

Regards,
Sagun
