# Announcing HUMAnN 4.0 (alpha)

Dear HUMAnN users: **HUMAnN 4.0 (alpha) has arrived!** Many thanks for your patience—we know there have been a lot of users looking forward to this release for a long time. Since a lot is changing in this version, we’re trying something new and using a Google Doc to organize the release notes (including installation instructions). Please [**CLICK HERE**](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rCx5JkuO7wCKWrL8_-UJx_FkopJAfcDFtZktgPspak0/edit?usp=sharing) to check them out.

If you have a question about the release notes (e.g. something isn’t clear), then please reply to this post and I will clarify here and in the notes. If you try HUMAnN 4 and something doesn’t work, then please create a new post in the forum and describe the issue. We’re looking forward to getting user feedback on the new version!

Note that although we are tagging this version as an “alpha,” we’ve used it a lot internally and are confident in its function and accuracy. We’re already at work on the “final” (v4.0) release, which is largely focused on further database and annotation updates.

It looks like there is a typo in the install instructions

> **$ conda install humann=4.0.0.a1 -c biobaker**  
> should it be " **4.0.0a1**"?

When is the stable version being released? It has been alpha for over a year.
